Gingered Toro Tuna with Soy and Sesame

This is an excellent way to serve fresh tuna—it’s quick and easy to prepare and so delicious.  Chris liked it so well that he is going to make it for Lena.

Makes 6 large servings
  • 1 pound tuna trimmed and sliced very thinly into 2x3” pieces

Marinade

  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced into half-moons
  • 3 tablespoons diced jalapenos (can used pickled jalapenos if you like)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup coarsely chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds

Wrap tuna in plastic wrap and freeze 1-2 hours until firm. Once frozen, remove tuna from freezer and slice crosswise very thinly.  In a non-reactive bowl, blend the marinade ingredients together. Add the tuna and gently toss.  Serve immediately over rice or quinoa.
