Cookblog kickoff!

We’re opening the door on the Cookblog.  We hope you enjoy it!

Our focus is on recipes that we’ve prepared for you at meals at our house, visits to Idaho, etc.  In fact, the genesis of the idea was from a visit to Idaho a few years back, when I think Janette, Lauren, my mom, Shannon, and I were all talking about compiling family recipes into a family cookbook.  Also, Janette and I have always intended to keep good records of what we make when we prepare special meals for quests (and that never got too far, either).

At any rate, I think the on-line blog format is the perfect way to accomplish both ends.  And our goal is for it to be useable and useful.  While our library of cookbooks will still be a treasured resource for new ideas and for recipes we’ve never made, this cookblog will probably (hopefully) eliminate the disorganized stack of pages torn from magazines or printed from epicurious.com.  It might also be easier to click back and forth between recipes in the cookblog (or have them open in different windows simultaneously) than to have a few cookbooks strewn across the counter.

We're still working on the tags as the organizing principle and tool for navigation. There should be fewer tags for broader categories, and we want to make them more clearly associated with particular occasions, like our anniversary dinner in April, Mike and Lauren’s visit, Nat and Shannon’s visit, etc.  But, beyond that, there’s some difficult organizational challenges yet to be sorted out.  For example: should bacon have it’s own category?  I say yes; Janette rolls her eyes at me.  At any rate, you can use the search bar to search the blog for any specific ingredient, and the tags as they stand now should be useful (though they’ll probably change in the future).

So, again, that's the cookblog kickoff.  We hope you enjoy it and contribute recipes to it!
