Grilled nectarines with feta

sonoma

Marvelously easy, dramatic and impressive, and tasty, most of all. Just the kind of dish we like.

This was a side dish we served June 27 for Ryan’s birthday. Along with most of the other dishes we served that day, this was from the Sonoma Summer menu from Bon Appetit, July 2008 issue.

Serves 8.

INGREDIENTS

4 nectarines, halved, pitted
Melted butter (for brushing)
1 cup coarsely crumbled feta cheese (preferably sheep's-milk feta)

DIRECTIONS

Prepare barbecue (medium-high heat). Brush nectarines with butter. Grill nectarines, cut side down, until grill marks appear, 4 to 5 minutes. Turn nectarines over. Sprinkle with cheese, then pepper. Grill until grill marks appear on bottoms, 4 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat while the fruit still has some firmness. Try to remove from grill without allowing the grill marks to stick.
